Life is hectic, there's a lot of things people are dealing with. With the chaos of the world, it's hard to find time to collect ourselves, take care of our mind and bodies, and balance work, school and hobbies. Having a routine can be beneficial for us to handle the stress of our lives, develop healthy habits and make room for relaxation and fun. Here are some helpful tips I have practiced for the past few weeks that helped me improve my mental health, fitness, and work-school balance.


TIP 1:

Start your morning off right: The first thing I do in the morning is give thanks. Prayer, meditation, reading, and journaling, are things you can include in the morning. It sets your mind to a peaceful state. I also like to drink hot lemon water with ginger. If your mornings are usually busy, noisy, and you don't have time to do these things, try and prioritize your preparation such as clothing, breakfast, and transportation to keep you ready for the day.

TIP 2:

Organize your schedule and tasks: The night before or the day of,  I like to write down a to-do list for the week, that way I can construct my days around the tasks I need to complete. Keeping it in your head can be frustrating and you may forget some things, so write down reminders. In general, it helps you focus on one thing at a time, one day at a time. Studying, rehearsing scripts, preparing for a meeting, practicing an instrument, shopping, even creating new projects or starting new hobbies might be things to include on your list. 

TIP 3:

Mental Health and Body Health: With all the negativity spreading around, I found that doing something I really love helps my mental health. I like to play my piano, read novels, write poetry, and watch television to help boost my mood. Connecting with loved ones and friends or a therapist, taking your vitamins, going outside and experiencing nature, exercising, drinking plenty of water, etc. are things you can do to properly take care of your body. Even taking yourself out on a date to the movies, or to a nice restaurant (if it's safe to do so) is recommended. Life is short, so have fun!

TIP 4:

End of the day + sleep:   When the day comes to an end, it's best to unwind just in time for bed. I find this to be the best time to give myself self-care. Regular hygiene is important to maintain. I like to add a homemade face mask with honey and sugar to my bedtime routine, and exfoliate to keep my skin clear. You also can finish homework, reply to emails and texts, and prepare for the next day. And it is understandable that it's hard for a lot of us to put our phones down before sleeping, but try it! Read a book, talk to someone, or write to keep your eyes off of that screen. Blue light can disrupt our ability to fall asleep and wake up.


I have struggled with maintaining a routine many times, and that's okay! It's all about organizing time to take care of your needs and responsibilities, taking care of yourself, and performing better at work and school. Feel free to use my tips to create a routine that suits your needs!
