New Year's goals

Happy New Year Asia Lab!
2022 has arrived, and I'm sure many people have created resolutions for the year. But the truth is, according to UAB Medicine, less than 8% of people complete their New Years resolutions.
I'm definitely NOT in that 8%! But that's okay, you can create or change your resolutions no matter the time of the year.
Here are some helpful (AND REALISTIC) New Years goals for actors, writers, musicians, and other creatives and performers.
#1: A list of goals
Individual or collective goals you may want to achieve in your career, or social, financial, and emotional aspects for 2022.
- Write or complete a script, score, song, essay, screenplay...
- Go for at least (insert number) of auditions
- Land dream role
- Obtain a better job
- Save more money
- Collaborate with other artists
- Create a content channel, page, blog...
- Practice and improve in your craft
- Have a healthy diet
- Exercise more (hit the gym, take more walks or runs, dancing, etc.)
- Learn a new skill (language, singing, martial arts, writing, directing, art, comedy, improv...)
- Go back to an old skill (instrument, photography or cinematography, dancing, designing...)
- Improve your self tape game
- Update your resume, headshot, profiles, and website (Backstage, YouTube Channel, Facebook)
- Get an agent or join a management group
- Travel more (if it is safe to do so)
- Be more happy and take care of mental health
- Reach out to friends and strengthen work or personal relationships
- Pray and relax more
#2: Say What You Want
Don't write down things that hold no meaning to you. It's your life, steer the wheel in the direction you want. After you have written a list of things you would like to achieve this year, remind yourself everyday that you are capable of completing anything on that list. Stick it on your fridge, diary, bathroom mirror, computer, or some place where you can view it daily. This helps you keep your resolutions in check so you don't forget.
#3: Set a time and organize yourself
Go at your own pace, overworking or cramming can lead to a burnout. Plus, you don't have to work on your resolutions right way if you don't feel like it. We all become tired or lazy at some point, but something that can help us work efficiently while giving ourselves a break, is organizing our time and tasks from most-least important. Mark which resolutions are; daily, weekly, or monthly goals, and goals that are one time things you wanted to do before the year ends. Also, create a schedule to help keep your mind on track (for example, it might contain meeting times, job/school tasks, grocery lists, flight times, auditions, and self care...).
#4: Educate your mind
Just reading this article is what I mean when I write 'educating your mind'. Based on your goals, find tools and resources that will provide information in your 2022 journey. Read books about theater, acting techniques, or your favorite director. Perform weekly monologues to improve your acting and language skills, and your versatility. Take a workshop to become a better camera operator, or just learn how the industry works (Asia Lab offers various programs for performers and creatives). Maybe you want to go to film school, so do your research, and pick the one that is best suitable for you. Reach out to your colleagues or friends and see how you can help them on their short film, or shadow them on set. Hands on experiences also lead to more knowledge.
#5: $
Managing your finances is really important. Whether you have a lot in the bank, or little in your pocket, it can take you a long way, and stability is key. If you want to go far in your acting career, financial sacrifices are most likely going to occur. You can reach out to an advisor, or do your own research through books and seminars. Plus, not EVERYTHING costs money, so don't always break the bank when there are tons of free opportunities available in your area or online. Making money can be difficult (trust me, I know), sometimes you work many jobs at one time, and sometimes you have no job or gigs. Let's make 2022 a year of landing jobs/opportunities, and managing and stabilizing your $ better.
#6: Get out there and create
That's all I have to share, so let's go create and get booked and busy! One more thing, don't compare yourself to others, and don't give up. It's a cliché, but doing that won't help you mentally. We have been through some crazy times, but no matter what, if you keep focus, and an open mind, you'll do great. Everyone has potential.
And if you get lazy, that's fine. Just get some rest, then get back on your feet.
Go forth into your creative journey's and good luck in 2022!
