The Wedding Trip

Atlanta, Georgia

History repeats itself as I returned back to Atlanta, marking 10 years since I was there as a small, 8-year old flower girl for my cousins wedding.

What started off as a confusing and tiring morning, turned into a fun and fantastic night when I arrived in Georgia's capital, Atlanta. We stayed at the glamorous Midtown Hotel, which had a chic atmosphere as live jazz music played while we were checking in.

The beginning of my cousins wedding weekend started off with an intimate bridal party at King + Duke in Downtown Atlanta. I met my older cousins, as well as other family and friends, and we played entertaining games to celebrate my cousins big day. The steak at the restaurant was seasoned to perfection and I had the best lemonade there!

The next day, we scoured Colony Square, a modern hub for restaurants and shopping. We stopped for a quick trip to a nail salon, and grabbed lunch at Politan Row, which is a great food court if you are craving a variety of food. They had tacos, Vietnamese, pizza, and Caribbean food (which was delicious). We continued into the evening preparing for a wedding rehearsal/family dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy.

Wedding Day

Amidst the preparation, wearing a traditional Nigerian Gele, I was surprised when my cousin asked me to read a scripture at the wedding. I was nervous about it at first, but the beauty of the rooftop setting calmed my nerves. Everything was stunning and full of loving people who came to see the beautiful union of the couple. After that, it was cocktails and party time! The most memorable part of that night was when we introduced my cousin into the ballroom in a traditional Kenyan ritual, with green and yellow umbrellas and a Kenyan song for the bride. After the first dances were finished, my cousin went to change into Nigerian attire and my uncle (her dad), my mum, their family friend, and I all danced to Burna Boys, Ye, to introduce the couple in a traditional Nigerian ritual. It was the most fun I have ever had!

After the long and tiring wedding events, we ended the trip visiting a family friend in Stone Mountain Park. There is so much to do in the park and I recommend visiting it if you are ever in the area or traveling to Atlanta.
